Abstract:
To provide a steel type assessment method for a steel material having a generally circular cross-section with which steel type assessment can be performed simply and with good precision. The steel type assessment method includes a detection step of moving a measuring part (2) equipped with an irradiation part (21) for irradiating x-rays and a detector (22) for detecting fluorescent x-rays relative to a steel tube (4) along the circumferential surface of the steel tube (4) for a predetermined time needed for analysis while irradiating x-rays to the steel tube (4) from the irradiation part (21) and detecting the fluorescent x-rays that are radiated from the steel tube (4) with the detector (22), a calculation step of calculating the composition of the steel tube (4) on the basis of the fluorescent x-rays detected by the detection step, and an assessment step of assessing the steel type of the steel tube (4) from the composition that is calculated by the calculating step.
