The present invention increases the accuracy of a process in equalizing degradation bet ween a plurality of storage media in which nonvolatile semiconductor memory is incorporated, while moderating the load of a storage controller. A storage system is provided with a plurality of storage devices, and the storage controller. The storage controller stores a quantity of requested data indicating the amount of data written to an area currently in a specific period to which the data is to be written, and estimates, on the basis of the amount of requested data and relevant information received from the storage devices, an estimated amount of data written into a nonvolatile semiconductor memory chip during the specific period on the basis of the write data for the area. The storage controller selects a second logical storage area to which is allocated a storage device different from a storage device allocated to a first logical storage area, and which has a smaller estimated amount of data than an estimated amount of data of the first logical storage area, and moves first data stored in the first logical storage area to the second logical storage area.
