Abstract:

To provide a proximity detection device and a method therefor capable of executing high-dynamic range detection at high speed by low voltage driving.

The device includes a plurality of transmitting electrodes 3 corresponding to one dimension in two dimensions in a detection domain 2, receiving electrodes 4 corresponding to the other dimension, a multiline driving means 5 for applying simultaneously a periodical AC voltage to at least two or more electrodes of the transmitting electrodes 3, a current measurement means 6, a computing means, and a control means 9a. The operation means includes: a linear computing means 7 for computing linearly a current value measured by the current measurement means 6 or an accumulated charge amount, and converting the result into a value corresponding to a capacitance at each intersection point between each transmitting electrode 3 and each receiving electrode 4; and a proximity operation means 8 for determining proximity of an object to a detection domain 2 or an approaching position from output from the linear computing means 7. The linear computing means 7 includes a storage means 15 for storing a middle result of checking.
