SOLUTION: In the image printer comprising means having a capstan drive gear 24, a reel drive gear 27, an idler lever 28 rotatable at a rotary shaft of the gear 27 and an idler gear 29 engaged in mesh with both the gears and for transmitting a rotary force to engage with and disengage from the gear 27 in response to a rotating direction of the gear 24, a means for stopping rotation of the lever 28 so that the gear 29 is not engaged in mesh with the gear 27, and a reverse rotation stop means for stopping the gear 27 in a reverse rotation to a rotating direction for taking up an ink sheet 1 integrally in a take-up reel unit 20, the backstop means is formed of a driven gear 11, a reverse rotation stop lever 16, urging member and stopper 21.
