To provide a manipulator that manipulates smaller objects via smaller light power.
An anatase TiO2 photocatalyst layer 12 is formed on a glass substrate 10. A laser 16 as a first light source emits laser light onto the TiO2 photocatalyst layer 12 where it focuses into a laser spot, which is scanned by an optical scanning system 14. A mercury lamp 36 acting as a second light source radiates photocatalyst-exciting light onto the TiO2 photocatalyst layer 12. When the laser spot is scanned freely two-dimensionally to move a smaller object 38 trapped in this laser spot, a thin wafer film formed over the TiO2 photocatalyst layer 12 acts also so a lubricant to thus allow the smaller object 38 on the TiO2 photocatalyst layer 12 to be manipulated with ease even with smaller light power of the laser light.
