NEW MATERIAL:Antibiotic roseorbicin A of formula I: red powder; melting point 143W147°C; molecular weight 1043.2; and antibiotic roseorbicin B of formula II: red powder; melting point 122W124°C; molecular weight 684.8.
USE: Carcinostatics capable of inhibiting propagation and nucleic acid synthesis of mouse leukemia cell, having a strong antitumor actions on experimental tumors, with a slight toxicity.
PROCESS: Strains of the genera Streptomyces and Actinomyces are cultured at 20W 32°C for 2W6 days by the aerobic submerged culture, and the bacterium bodies and the filtrate are extracted with a neutral organic solvent. The extract is purified and separated by column chromatography to give roseorbicins A and B. The roseorbicin A is hydrolyzed with a dilute acid and converted into roseorbicin B.
