Title:
PARTICULATE TRAP FOR DIESEL ENGINE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2953409
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a form of a regenerative heater for realizing an uniform temperature distribution throughout all areas of the regenerative heater within a range from temperature near the combustion temperature of 600°C of particulates to temperature not higher than the heat resisting temperature of filters of 1000°C for 10 to 25 minutes after the regeneration begins.
SOLUTION: Thin plate type electric heaters 2 and 3 are disposed in the intermediate parts of multilayer cylindrical filters 4, 5, 6 and 7 for trapping particulates. As means for lowering the supply power of the heaters 2 and 3 as one comes nearer to the central side of the multilayer cylindrical filters 4 to 7, the thickness of the thin plate type electric heaters 2 and 3 or the geometric pattern of a path for electric current supplied is changed to lower the temperature of the central side cylinders whose temperature is liable to be high and balance it with the temperature of the outer peripheral side cylinders, the resistance values of the heaters 2 and 3 are preset or the amount of electric current supplied to the heaters 2 and 3 is selectively decreased as one comes nearer to the central cylinders. Thus, the temperature distribution of the filters 4 to 7 of the outer peripheral cylinders is balanced with that of the central side filters.
